Job Description
This is a MS SQL Server and Oracle DBA role and largely SQL responsible for providing operational database services to the organization(50+SQL and 15+ Oracle). Some of the primary responsibilities of this role would include owning, tracking and resolving database related incidents and requests, fulfilling requests and resolving incidents within SLAs, reviewing service related reports (e.g: database backups, maintenance, monitoring) on a daily basis to ensure service related issues are identified and resolved within established SLAs, responding to database related alerts and escalations and working with database engineering to come up with strategic solutions to recurring problems.
This MS SQL Server DBA role requires a service oriented mentality, high sense of ownership of the problems and requests assigned, focus on managing and resolving issues in alignment with the SLAs, establishing and maintaining communication with technology customers to keep them updated with status of their requests, initiating and performing changes on production systems and proactively escalating any issues that cannot be resolved within the established timeframes.
Position Requirements:
• Has 8+ years of experience in database Administration, Development and support in MS SQL and Oracle Server environments.
• Strong experience in Database Administration in SQL Server ( 2005/2008/R2 ) and SSRS/AS and Oracle 9i/10g/11g R2 and Tools such as Idera, Commvault
• Support Multi Application database environment
• Have done SQL Command Line installation and Configuration, Oracle Installation, Patching, Listener configuration and RMAN backup
• Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, connectivity issues, security issues etc.
• Experience in Performance Tuning, SQL Partitions, Query Optimization, using Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler and other related monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
• Ability to detect and troubleshoot SQL Server related CPU, Memory, I/O, disk space and other resource contention.
• Strong knowledge of Only Replication. No other HA technology being used.
• Backups, restores, recovery models, database shrink operations and DBCC commands
• Expertise in Distributed Queries and Linked Server driver installation and configuration and Security Management
• Database Refresh - SQL Databases, Oracle Databases
• Table Refresh – Oracle to SQL and SQL to SQL
• Support SharePoint Databases
• Expert experience in implementing operational automation.
• Strong knowledge of indexes, index management, integrity checks, configuration, patching.
• Knowledge of SQL Server tools ( Profiler, DTA, SSMS, PerfMon, DMVs, system procs, BPA, SSUA and SSMA)
• SQL Development – ability to write and troubleshoot SQL Code and design ( stored procs and PL/SQL Procedure, functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes, constraints )
• Documentation skills for processes and procedures ( creating KBs, runbooks, topology etc )
• SQL Database Operational support to tech users
Preferred candidates would also meet the following criteria:
• Need to know how to manage SQL and Oracle Databases
• Have done various Upgrades and Migration, Application upgrades, Oracle to Oracle, Oracle to SQL Migration and Access to SQL migration
• Knowledge of 3rd party DBA tools and applications ( e.g Idera, Commvault backup/recovery and restore procedures)
• Knowledge in a scripting language like Powershell and T-SQL
