Role: Middleware eCommerce Engineer
Location: Cincinnati, Ohio (prefer locals)
Duration: 6 Months +

Position Description:
The primary focus of this position is to provide architecture, engineering and operational guidance and execution for Middleware Services Ecommerce Apache Cassandra environment. This role is tasked with designing, implementing and reviewing enhancements to Kroger's Cassandra environments. This role is accountable for the availability and mean-time-to-repair (MTTR) of Cassandra. The successful candidate will triage, diagnosis and correct Cassandra performance bottlenecks, collaborate with Ecommerce development staff on Cassandra dependent application features and functions, upgrade Cassandra and monitor overall health and wellness of the Cassandra environment. This role requires a background in Java, experience with Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) application Containers such as IBM Liberty, IBM WebSphere and Apache Tomcat. Experience with design and implementation of scalable systems required, experience with system instrumentation and monitoring tools required and familiarity with networking is a plus. The role is a hybrid between engineering and operations. The successful candidate will have a background in both.
Essential Job Functions:
· Provide guidance to Ecommerce development teams on Kroger's Middleware technology systems and services in an effort to improve performance and reliability of new applications and new application features.
· Provision new systems and services for Kroger's Ecommerce space. This includes, but is not limited to, installing and configuring barebones hardware, installing and configuring middleware software components, integrating new systems with Kroger's security framework and being service delivery owner of new systems and services development partners and external customers
· Manage, execute, log and report break/fixes changes for Ecommerce Middleware Applications
· Develop and follow documented processes and procedures to ensure Middleware systems stability.
· Provide and analyze usage, performance, service level, compliance and audit reporting of Kroger's Ecommerce environments
· Implement, report, and monitor service upgrades (e.g. security fixes, etc.).
· Test and support software, hardware upgrades that directly affect Ecommerce applications and systems
· Perform process, hardware and software analysis on new technologies in their area of support and make recommendations to management on Middleware technology stacks
· Support and maintain Kroger Ecommerce solutions by utilizing required tools and technologies. Provide off-hours support (24 x 7) as required
Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation
Requirements:
1-2 years of experience working in the ecommerce technology space
1 -2 years working with IBM Liberty, Tomcat and IBM WebSphere (Base/ND) a plus
Exposure and preferably experience with IBM WebSphere Commerce Server
Experience with and familiarity with NoSQL database technologies as well as relational databases
Linux/Unix platform expertise
Experience with Apache and preferably experience with Reverse Proxies
Experience with firewalls and common ecommerce security frameworks
Exposure to Agile development methodologies preferred but not required
Some background in Java development a plus but not required
Needs to be able to "hit the ground running". Will be trained in some of the harder to find skill sets, but should already be solid in all things Middleware
Desired Skills:
Associates degree in IS or related equivalent work experience in an Information Systems position.
1 -2 years experience in supporting IT Infrastructure or Security services
