Position Summary

 

  • Responsible for daily operation and integrity of one or more system administration functions, such as systems software administration, quality assurance/development/production support, data/storage administration, and/or business continuity support.

 

  • Serves as senior technical support to other IT and user business areas in these functions.

 

  • With minimal technical guidance implements and supports complex technical solutions across various technologies and platforms.

 

  • Follows change management practices.  Functions as a contributing member of a larger technical team.

 

  • Position involves high degree of customer service and troubleshooting skill. 

Key Responsibilities

 Builds, installs and maintains LINUX and Solaris operating system environments, including third party software and tools,VCS,LDOMs  recommended system patches and security fixes.  Follows established best practices for system integrity, access, security and administration. Uses and creates scripts to automate routine tasks. Configures system network connectivity in support of networked applications. Deploys high availability solutions.  Provides regular off-hours support in conjunction with projects. 

  • Conducts system acceptance reviews including performance reports and operational assurance and documentation.  Provides monitoring of all critical system components and ensures complete operational readiness of all environments.  Acts as liaison with vendor technical support to identify and resolve technical issues.  Effectively troubleshoots problems, identifying cause and resolution.  Communicates effectively with management and IT colleagues. Potentially need to participate in on-call rotation and be available off-hours support to provide 7X24X365 support. 
  • Implements and maintains data volume management on deployed servers.  Protects data through use of journaling, RAID, and snapshot technology.  Provisions storage to servers from storage area network following best practices.  Provides useable data storage areas to applications to meet demands for new applications as well as organic growth of existing environments.  Provides report metrics for storage utilization analysis in support of capacity planning and performance analysis. 
  • Responsible for installation and maintenance of business recovery solutions on Wiley systems.  Performs backups and recoveries of Wiley systems and environments.  Utilizes backup/recovery application software, virtual backup solutions, and replication technology to protect Wiley data.  Participates in business continuity testing on a regular basis and assists in documenting recovery procedures. 
  • Evaluates 3rd party software tools and solutions in support of IT initiatives.  Assists in Wiley application design and deployment, including utilization of Load Balancer technology.  Create report metrics to assist in IT planning activities.  Supports access to LINUX/UNIX systems.

College degree preferably in Computer Science Engineering.

 

Technical Course training in Solaris  & Linux environments

 

College degree preferably in Computer Science Engineering.

 

Advanced degree in highly desirable

 

Prior Experience

 

Minimum of 5 years of experience in Solaris & Linux in administration, production support and implementation.

Having skills on  Netbackup  Administration would be preferable.

 

Knowledge

 

Extensive knowledge of Solaris & LINUX Operating System

Experience in VCS , CFS

Knowledge of Networking theory.

Experience with business continuity best practices

Experience in SAN/NAS storage administration

Experience with Shell Scripting

 

 

Experience in Backup/Restore administration

Experience in Network administration
