This is really funny. It makes me chuckle when I think about it. Obama
has made an offer, but the Republicans haven't made a counter offer.
What they want is cuts in Medicare and Medicaid, but they're afraid to
ask for them because they know that's unpopular and could cost them
votes in the next election. On the other hand, Obama wants to let the
tax cuts expire for the upper bracket and he's asking for them and
that is very popular. So the Republicans are in a bind.
The Republicans want Obama to offer to make Medicare and Medicaid cuts
so they don't have to ask for them and so they can blame him later,
but unlike last time, he's not going to do it. So now the Republicans
are weeping and wailing and gnashing their teeth.
Professional negotiators have a highly technical expression for the
situation the Republicans are in. They call it not knowing whether to
shit or go blind. :-)
