President Obama won the Popular vote by 53%, yet Republicans say this was not a Mandate?

Romney got the 47% 

That is a win of 6% points 

Bush said he had a mandate in 2004 because

he won the electoral college 286 to 251, and

he won the popular vote by 2.4 %

However Republicans say President Obama DOES NOT have

a mandate even though he had TWICE the margin of victory

Obama won the electoral college 332 to 206, and

he won the popular vote by 6%

can anyone say and explain cognitive dissonance to the nutwing right?
