TRICARE For Life came about ONLY after numerous lawsuits over decades by military retirees who presented far more than just the oral promises of health care for life after a career of service made by unscrupulous recruiters acting as agents of the government but written promises included in enlistment contracts and other contractual documents. The government had to be drug, kicking and screaming by the courts in numerous judgments made against them to finally come up with the TRICARE for Life program. It was only in the mid to late 90s that the government, in the form of a Republican Congress passing the TFL bill and Clinton signing it that it became a reality. Even today, it is not the free program promised by the government but most of us in the military retirement community are willing to accept what we have. THERE is your answer, go through the hassle, the cost, and the frustration of decades of frustration spent in lawsuits for those who come after in your profession to make the government (state or local) that promised such an outcome to you as an inducement to enter your profession under the auspices of whichever state or municipality contracted with you to do so.
Government employees (Federal) and politicians (Federal) do not get the same benefits that military retirees get. They get more and that has always been a bone of contention as well since their guaranteed health insurance is a guaranteed of AFGE or NFFE or NTEU (or any of the other federal employees unions) or the congress critters themselves as awarded on a contractual basis as negotiated by the union itself or, again, by Congress for themselves and for non salaried government employees and SES (Senior Executive Service Employees (GS 16 and above)). Military retirees do NOT have a union to represent them nor does it want one. I can’t see soldiers “striking” because they think that their working conditions aren’t acceptable going into a warzone. The gains made by military retirees and vets in the battlefield of the courts to force the government to meet its contractual responsibilities have been borne by the service members themselves and without an organization behind them. Our organizations which lobby for us such as MOAA, NCOA, VFW, American Legion, DAV are member supported.
Indeed I have an emotional investment in the issues that you underlined in red. Political elitists are corrupt to the maximum and the rot is on both sides of the aisle. The only ideological thread running in common in the most corrupt of both sides is that of “progressivism”. This is NOT a socialist nation and was never conceived to be one. The movement towards socialism is a movement towards its downfall as the very concept of socialism is incompatible with freedom and liberty.

Here's the deal: federal employees have traditionally received much better bennies than those of us who work for local government, hospitals and schools. You earned yours for sure..but what about those of us who are hardworking and the benefits of that nature is nowhere on the horizon. I am arguing here than federal employees and Congresspersons should get the same health care that everyone else does. That would hopefully clean up with healthcare issue and allow us to deal with other important issues.

Pred already PAID for it and he will end up paying a premium for it when he can use it. The same applies to me and anyone who performed honest work during their pre-retirement lives. AND yes, I have no choice about subscribing to Part D (if that’s the one for prescription coverage) BECAUSE I’m TRICARE for Life eligible MOST OF US DON"T GET SUCH A CUSHY BENEFIT, and we have earned ours, too. . Democrats can play all the games with semantics that they want in trying to convince the working public that such things are entitlements foisted on them by those nasty Republicans and that folks don’t understand that it is indeed the workers of today are the ones who actually have to dig into their pockets to cover the costs of Medicare and Social Security but their lies fail when it is considered that those recipients paid for both with every pay check they’ve ever earned and that it is the fat cat politicians, mostly on the left because they’re the entitlement kings for a reason and that reason is not the welfare of their constituents, who robbed the funds for their toys, pay for play, pork, paybacks to contributors etc. Here you get the prize for the longest complex compound run-on sentence. Tells me you are emotional about this. I also recognize that the left is absolutely positive that they are smarter than anyone in the population when they misconstrue the fact that their corruption and power to enforce that corruption DOES NOT constitute intelligence. Those days are coming to an end and those who resist that end can be found on both sides of the political aisle (some as the GOP elite who decided that Missouri was not entitled to enfranchisement in any portion of the primary cycle and they will be made to pay with their removal from office in the Constitutionally prescribed fashion in the upcoming election and elections that follow. Democrats will have to clean up their own pig sty but they seem far less willing or capable to do so. Here in Missouri, the grass roots citizen will vote strongly for GOP candidates because the Dems are seen as beyond revival but the elites of the GOP will find several shocks to come from the grass roots citizenry.

Taxpayers are , also, not responsible for your viagra, yet medicare pays for it.
You keep using that lame argument. I don't use viagra and I'm not old enough for Medicare.
