Re: Bankrupt America? "YES WE CAN."

What do you mean defense? Our army is larger than the next 17 COMBINED. They are afraid of us, not the other way around. Teddy hasn['t said much for the last 60 years, and we no longer Remember the Maine. Times are different now.

I know you hate spending on our own citizens...but building a strong, healthy and well educated population is the best way forward.  Jefferson created the education system that we have...he just never imagined that people would not want to learn. We can work on this.

We still have a space program. I have no idea who missed it...but all that has been discontinued is the shuttle. Curiousity is hard at work on Mars, sending better picture and information than we have ever had.

I think Ryan is dangerous. Just like Willard. L

JK, number 1: I think it's you and not Lew who is fundamentally confused.  I do not know what Romney/Ryan's tax cut amounts to, but I'm very skeptical that it's $4 trillion, especially with 23 million people out of work and not paying taxes - not to mention those who don't pay taxes anyway.

Almost every existing government program seriously needs deep cuts EXCEPT defense. Who was it, Teddy Roosevelt who said "walk softly but carry a big stick?" We no longer have a big stick.

The government has no business with its fingers in education, health, nutrition programs.  Highways should be maintained by the states.

The space program? In the beginning that was a good candidate for the government.  Still is, actually because had a private company landed man on the moon from 69 to 72 and returned with 840 lbs. of moon rocks which are considered a national treasure, they would be privately owned.  The sad part of the story is 43 years ago our government started from nothing  but a 1961 wish from JFK and sent men to the moon and brought them back with onboard computers with about as much power as the cell phone you had 10 years ago. Today, we can  no longer go to the moon; we can't even send astronauts to our space station or bring them back. We have to depend on Russia and their 50 year old Soyuz at $200 million a ride for that. The Space Shuttles were built with an expected life of 100 flights each. None flew more than 35.  Now  Mr. Obama has shut that program down.  Most of the experienced space program workers have been laid off.  To restart the program would be near to impossible without another JFK type mandate.

Number 2:  About wars.  Wars will happen no matter who is president.  I have a sneaking suspicion that to ward off the surety of Mutual Assured Destruction, the next war will be very short and simple - an EMP attack.  One nuke exploded high in the atmosphere and the country below immediately  returns to the stone age.  I just hope it's not us.  I'm clueless when it comes to sending emails with an abacus.

Number 3:  When has the CBO ever been right about anything?

Gee Lew,

I think you are fundamentally confused, Mitt's tax cut will create $4 Trillion,(yes Lew, with a 'T') more debt that can only be paid for with deep cuts from every government program except Defense. I am told to expect roughly 20% or more in AG programs, Education Programs, Health Programs, Nutrition Programs, Highways, Space Programs, etc.

Then He and BiBi have decided on a war in Iran, most likely another in Seria, maybe still another one in Lebanon. Oops, did I forget N. Korea?

All this so he can reduce his personal tax obligation to 1/2% for perpetuity...

If the CBO estimate is correct, without a war or 4, the budget he is copying from Ryan will balance in 2030... and pay off the debt it has built sometime before 2121... (that is, if there is still an American economy)... LOL
