Re: New Breast Cancer Restrictions - For Annie

You Go Girl,

The ACA has many benefits that have not absorbed into the thinking areas of the brain for some folks yet. Preventative care, and proscription drug coverage are just the tip of the ice burg. As more of the peaces kick in, it will be easier to see the reasons for the law. IT WILL MAKE OUR NATION HEALTHIER!

As far as the extreme positions of the GOP: Ending Medicare as we know it in 10 years by creating a voucher system for coverage is absurd, as is ending Medicade. Fix the damn thing, raise receipts (end the glass ceiling of $110,000), increase the age of retirement; find ways to stop waste, fraud, and abuse; get control of Big Pharma, Big Healthcare, and Big Insurance. I would suggest a single payer system, still.

Most of all, become a willing partner in a constructive dialogue to make the system work better.

Look, my cousin is a DMD (Dental Medical Doctor), and a Congressman. But instead of leading on this issue, he is busy gutting the EPA. We should put the people with intimate knowledge of the system on the front line finding a solution for the dysfunction. When the Congress is willing to toss the pseudo-science and embrace facts, clearly we will be gaining goodwill and a starting point to a solution.

The Supreme Court has Ruled: Obamacare is Constitutional

Millions of Americans—from the women who can now access free checkups to the seniors saving on their prescriptions to the 105 million people that have seen lifetime limits on their insurance coverage lifted—can continue to enjoy these important benefits. And now, we can move forward on implementing the provisions to come, like new state insurance exchanges, and making sure no American is denied coverage due to a pre-existing condition.

12.8 Million Americans Receive Insurance Rebates

Before health care reform, insurance companies routinely spent up to 40% of premiums on overhead and administrative costs. Today, thanks to Obamacare, insurance companies are required to spend at least 80% of your premium on your health care—and if they don't, you get a rebate. This summer, nearly 12.8 million Americans will start receiving their rebate checks, averaging $151 per household—and totaling more than $1.1 billion.

3.1 Million Young Americans Gain Health Coverage

Before the Affordable Care Act, young people could be kicked off their parents' health insurance as soon as they turned 18. But thanks to health care reform, 3.1 million young Americans who would otherwise be uninsured have been able to stay on their family's coverage until age 26—coverage that often includes free preventive care, like checkups and flu shots.

These services are in addition to the existing preventive care that the ACA makes available without copay to those with private health insurance and Medicare, including annual wellness visits, cholesterol screening, other cardiovascular screenings and cancer screenings, including mammograms, colonoscopy and cervical cancer tests.

Annie, watch this and tell us again how Republicans are trying to do away with health care for women. You have one more year for mammograms if Obamacare remains the law of the land.
