Re: How Many Rightwingers are Secretly Glad the Mandate was Upheld by the Supreme Court?

http://thehill.com/blogs/healthwatch/politics-elections/232573-report-insurers-gave-us-chamber-100-million-to-fight-healthcare-reform

Report: Insurers gave US Chamber $100 million to fight healthcare reform
By Sam Baker - 06/13/12 01:38 PM ET

Insurance companies gave the U.S. Chamber of Commerce more than $100
million to fight Democrats' healthcare reform effort, according to a
report in National Journal.

America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), the insurance industry's
leading trade group, did not directly launch an offensive against
healthcare reform during the year-long legislative debate over
healthcare. But AHIP quietly diverted millions of dollars to the
Chamber, which aggressively attacked the healthcare bill and Democrats
who supported it.

The transfers do not have to be disclosed as lobbying or political
contributions and are discernible only from a close review of tax
records.

Bloomberg initially broke the news that AHIP had transferred roughly
$88 million to the Chamber during 2009. National Journal's report says
AHIP gave the Chamber another $16 million in 2010, bringing the total
to more than $102 million.

Re: CENSORSHIP

Annie, I always thought of you as a fair and truthful woman, but you screwed the pooch this time.  You know as well as I do that no one has banned Pred from the forum.  All Pred did was change his S/N and it required approval from one of the powers that be - one of whom is you, to allow him to post again.  Of course you have the right to ignore his posts.  In fact, since you're on AOL you can put him on your spam list and never even see his name in your email list again.

It's odd that you would say his point of view is not legitimate because it is.  It's his point of view.  The fact that that you don't share that point of view is irrelevant.  He speaks with more pure logic than most of the people here, IMHO.  He doesn't have to rely on "feelings" like those of the left do.

Finally,  oh yes, you HAVE blocked someone's entry.  You blocked Pred's change of S/N request.  He thought he was on the forum all this time, receiving our posts but not able to post back.  On second thought, that's not blocking, that's censorship. And you IGNORED him.

Thanks to Lynne, who refused to ignore the problem,, he will hopefully soon be able to post with the rest of us again.

Perhaps it is you who should think.  Since you are a co-owner of this forum, you should act like one.

In a message dated 6/30/2012 7:15:30 A.M. Central Daylight Time, Annie39@aol.com writes:
Space, for the last time, no one has banned Pred from this forum, unless VT did and I am not aware of it.  If I ignore his posts, I have that right just as you do. If he posts a legit point of view, I read, but 99% of the time he just rants and raves nonsense.  Oh, yeah, I have NEVER blocked anyone's entry.  You ever think , because he changed his SN, that the powers that be look at him as a new poster and requires acceptance in joining this forum?   Think, Space, you know I am not unfair.

In a message dated 6/30/2012 12:49:39 A.M. Eastern Daylight Time, SpaceRace65@aol.com writes:
Now, Pred has, and I just ignored him
-----------------------------------------
Is what you're saying that you have taken it on yourself to ban Pred from this forum, the OPEN DEBATE (IMHO) forum for no particular reason other than you don't care for his point of view?  That, Annie, is chicken shit.  You can ignore him on the forum like you do some of the others.  You  don't have to block his entry.

RE: ARRESTS OF LAWYERS

That's an indictment...where was the MLS? Where was the voice of Counsel Kamkawasi's learned colleagues, all the bright embers to boil the evil pot to melting point? Experience they say, is the best teacher...in all this, I suppose we are drawing useful lessons for the future.

Why wasn't so much ado made about the arrest of my friend Kamkwasi? And the ACB had the audacity of lying to the whole nation! I read the affidavit in support of the application for a WOA, and they lied, m'maso muli gwa! The affidavit contained nothing of the sort they were parroting about "in circumstances where corruption was suspected".

Indeed, is there any constitutional human right violation here, like being detained beyond 48 hours without proper remand as it were? As i understand the facts, the law hs been followed to the letter. Police bail granted instantly. What is the MLS going to talk about when the law has been followed? Just an arrest, and an instant release? With bail? Didnt i read somewhere that equality is treating equal things equally and unequal things unequally? Isnt it the case that we (all malawians) are prone to an arrest, an investigation, so long as the constitutional dictates are followed, who would complain? If i break or broke the law it follows that i must be investigated and arrested and tried if need be, whether am a lawyer or not, not so?

RE: ARRESTS OF LAWYERS

Wapona, I agree that unlike on those previous occasions, there is nothing thus far to suggest that the tenets of the Constitution are under threat. If at all the MLS can say anything at this stage, it might be that it has noticed that some of its members (or officers of the Court) have been arrested in the past few days; that it takes the arrest of any officer of the Court seriously by reason of the very nature of that position; especially where the allegations raise issues of moral turpitude or dishonesty, and that it shall continue to monitor developments in those matters closely...I guess...

Re: ARRESTS OF LAWYERS

I agrée wit you KitA. Nothing wrong with arresting a lawyer if due process (i use this in a loose sense)is followed, we should only become worried if rights are violated. We are not beyond thé reach of thé law. That being said please dnt leav me in jail if i am arrested RoR

Re: Obama taxes the middleclass

I agree, I did not like the mandate idea at all. I am aware that there are many younger persons (most of the western world) that think they will never be ill and so they don't need insurance, which works well until something happens...diabetes, hit by a bus, snoking, skin cancer....most of these diseases are now beginning at earlier ages. I don't know why. Could be environmental. I do think something needed to be done, and at least we have a starting point at health insurance for everyone.

I don't know if you saw the NBC show last week when it was revealed that one hospital had the bill collector talk to the patients BEFORE any services were rendered. That's obnoxious, especially since medical care is the only thing we consume without knowing the price before we consume it. So, I am hopeful that the pressure from the IRS (who will collect the tax) will do some work on pricing.  Just watching the billing from my very own surgery last month was enough to make anyone dizzy. I get a bill twice a week for the same services and always different amounts. When it stablizies I will pay it. It's a real mess.

It took us several hundred years to get the Constitution where it is, as well as civil rights and other issues...I think we have a lot of negotiations in the future. Obama will be remembered as the first president who got legislation passed allowing most Americans better health care. L

Hi Lynne,

I was AGAINST the mandate..... precisely BECAUSE it served corporate interests.... forcing a lot of people, who can afford it, to buy PRIVATE INSURANCE.....
So, I'd say that Roberts stayed true to his "corporate" interests... made the insurance companies a boat-load of money....
Now, let's see if the "feds" can, in the future, arrange to lower private insurance premium costs... because not buying medical insurance at all is no longer an option for anyone of even moderate means....
