Re: Health insurance.

It's renewal time for us. And we don't have even one little change to the premium - the only thing I can see that is new is additional vision and programs for certain chronic diseases which result in $0 copay for the meds - How about that? It's CIGNA. L

Annie, from the time I turned 65 until last year I carried regular Medicare and a supplemental policy with AARP. Every year I would get hundreds of letters from various companies offering Medicare Advantage.  But I knew that was a HMO and I had had a HMO once before years ago when I was working and I hated it. But last year I became completely disillusioned with AARP because it seemed every year their premiums were increasing by 20% or more, plus they showed their ass when they came out in favor of Obamacare and the theft of $716 billion from Medicare to help pay for it.  I dropped them like a hot potato, let my membership lapse and joined AMAC.  Then, on the suggestion of my regular doctor, I called Texas HealthSpring, one of the Medicare Advantage outfits in this area.

They sent a salesman out to talk to me and I was totally surprised. I pay no premiums (other than my Medicare premium). Visits to my primary doctor are no cost and visits to specialists require a referral and a $30 copay.  I checked all the details before signing up, and all the specialists I use are members of Texas HealthSpring as is the local hospital. Generic prescriptions are generally $4 instead of the $7 I was paying before.

I haven't heard if anything is going to change for 2014 or not, but that's the way it was in 2013.
