Re: From Jack Mapanje

To wake up to the shock of gold-robed

Herod, boasting on his throne, struck

By Your angel and mauled to worms

After more than seven years of our

Singing, dancing, advising, crying for

Freedom, peace and justice. And Lord,

What relief, what solace so pure, what

Culture of hope suddenly descended!

Many thanks be to Jack Mapanje. For efforts by colleagues who sacrificed a lot for saying it as it is and loud!! Someone out there was quietly observing and appreciating indeed we can not afford to "dither" alluta continua!!

Cannot afford to dither now, you must
Continue to steer this ship till it docks
On the shores of peace, liberty, justice;
And glory be to God's divine reprieve!"

 Colleagues,
Prof Jack Mapanje has been so intrigued with the contribution that lawyers in Malawi , the Malawi Law Society as a collective has been making towards the fight for freedom that he has written a poem in honour of all lawyers.

 At his request, I paste it below:
On His Divine Reprieve: A Confession
(For Fiona & Comrades in litigation)
Dear Lord, I am sorry, but I doubted
Your power to intervene in human
Affairs, because I had sang too many
Songs of grief for my country's peace,
Freedom and justice, without getting
The desired result, as I thought; I am
Sorry, but I felt like I had been crying
From the wrong script as I could not
Decipher Your answer given the noisy,
Chaotic and muffled voices of this
Vociferous generation; I am sorry that
I dared You to wipe those personal
Communal and national tears for my
Country's peace, liberty and justice;
Lord, I am sorry, but I did not expect
To wake up to the shock of gold-robed
Herod, boasting on his throne, struck
By Your angel and mauled to worms
After more than seven years of our
Singing, dancing, advising, crying for
Freedom, peace and justice. And Lord,
What relief, what solace so pure, what
Culture of hope suddenly descended!
And dear comrades in litigation, you
Cannot afford to dither now, you must
Continue to steer this ship till it docks
On the shores of peace, liberty, justice;
And glory be to God's divine reprieve!
