Title: MYSQL DBA 

Employment Type: Long Term Contract (12 months+)

Our client is seeking to add an individual in a contractor role with strong prior MySQL Database Administration experience.  You will support the MySQL database ecosystem that powers our client's applications, as well as play a critical role in advising software engineers on scalability and performance best practices throughout the development process.

Responsibilities:

This role requires a motivated self-starter who can hit the ground running, quickly taking on tasks and applying their strong, prior experience to tackle the challenges presented. This would include:

  • Manage 100+ MySQL Production clusters for availability, performance, and reliability required by the application primarily on Linux.
  • Support Dev team in building features that perform at scale, including writing and tuning SQL queries
  • Provide second-tier 24x7 support including pager rotation.
  • Troubleshoot database-related application performance issues and recommend solutions.
  • Assist in the administration, management, and monitoring of all MySQL database systems.
  • Support various internal users in forming optimal queries to fulfill their ad-hoc and reporting data needs.
  • Develop scripts and tools to support any or all of the above.
  • Protect the safety and integrity of the database platform and client data, through backups and securing of MySQL instances.

Requirements:

  • 6+ years hands-on experience with managing and administering MySQL DBS including clustering.
  • Must possess an understanding of internals, specifically MyISAM and InnoDB storage engines, Replication, and Partitioning.
  • Experience with supporting MSSQL and Mongo databases
  • 4+ years of writing and tuning SQL queries.
  • Experience with MySQL 5.0, 5.1, and 5.5 major releases.
  • Experience with Percona XtraBackup.
  • Bachelor degree in Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Extremely honed problem-solving and debugging ability.
  • Strong Linux administration skills, CentOS 5.5+ advantageous.
  • Proficiency in BASH scripting and one of Perl/Python/PHP.
  • Familiarity with regular expressions for pattern matching and replacement.
  • Understanding of both OLTP and OLAP concepts.
  • Understanding of Java, MySQL Connector/J, and Hibernate concepts.
  • MySQL Certifications valued, but not required.
